The CMENY presents ECHO at Carnegie Hall on Tuesday, 12/19/17

12/13/2017

The Chinese Music Ensemble of New York is proud  to present ECHO at Weill Recital Hall on Tuesday, December 19, staring at 8:00 PM. ECHO will showcase traditional ethnic instruments paired with Western and electronic instruments, on pieces arranged by New York composers. The performance will include arrangements of classic Chinese folk songs as well as original works featuring fusion soundscapes and genre crossovers.

The performance will be anchored by StringsW, a group formed of instrumentalists Lu Liu, Nan Zhang, and Wei Sun on pipa, erhu, and guzheng, respectively. They are joined in this presentation by four award-winning Sino-American composers: Dimeng Yuan, Dong Liu, XiRen Wang and Yi Liu.

StringsW is a Chinese instrumental trio based in New York City, and its mission is to weave Chinese traditional music and culture further into the greater fabric of world music. They have performed at venues such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and New York Fashion Week.

Tickets prices start at $25. For more information, visit the box office website here.

The CMENY welcomes sponsors to contact us about opportunities in this presentation! Contact Lu Liu at (718) 612-0153 for details, or by email via bellelululiu@gmail.com.

2017 Spring Concert ticket sales live now!

3/16/2017

Tickets for our 2017 spring concert are now available for purchase from the Kaufman Music Center website! Full price tickets are $25.00; student/senior rate tickets ($15.00) may be purchased from the box office in person. The concert will begin at 3:00 PM in Merkin Concert Hall, near Lincoln Center on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

We're really excited about this concert: we're going to be presenting two new arrangements of Western pieces for Chinese traditional instruments to explore our own range and to let some of the new composers working with us gain a further familiarity with Chinese instruments. You'll have a chance to hear the love theme from the Godfather and Antonín Dvořák's Humoresque no. 7 featuring guest cellist James Waldo and erhu soloist Wang, Yang.

And, of course, we'll be presenting traditional Chinese art pieces, in both the chamber and full orchestra contexts.

We hope to see you there!
